Finnish game developer Surrogate has launched its latest title, SumoBots Battle Royale.
The game has launched in collaboration with six esports organisations, namely Alliance, Excel Esports, Team Heretics, ENCE, Team Empire, and mousesports.

Shane Allen, CEO at Surrogate discussed the launch in a release: “We’re excited to release our latest game, SumoBots Battle Royale! Back in the early 2000s, TV shows like Robot Wars and BattleBots paved the way for robot-fighting entertainment. But, while watching robots battling is super fun, that’s all you were able to do back then – just watch. So, we decided to take it a step further and create the first online robot arena where you don’t just watch but actually battle your own real-life robot over the internet!”

Each of organisations has its own robot in the game, with players earning points on behalf of the teams. The organisation with the most amount of points at the end of the season – with January 2nd being the end of the inaugural season – will receive the winner’s cup and visually takeover the arena for the upcoming season.

Kieran Holmes-Darby, CEO of Excel Esports spoke to Esports Insider about his organisation’s involvement in the game: “At Excel, we’re always looking for new opportunities to expand and happy to take bold steps into new areas of development. When we were approached by Surrogate.TV about their new SumoBots title, we knew we wanted to be involved from the get go and we’re hoping to offer the best players using the Excel robot incentives as the season goes on.”
