Philadelphia-based Nerd Street Gamers has entered a partnership with Comcast Business, a subsidiary of American telecommunications conglomerate Comcast.

The deal will see Comcast Business provide Nerd Street Gamers’ Localhost facilities with high-performance internet.

Nerd Street Gamers has started plans to expand its offering across North America, in which it’s looking to open over 100 Localhost facilities within the next five years. Since moving its operations online due to the current global situation, the company is said to have experienced a large increase in social media engagements with it hosting some of its largest tournaments to date in an online setting.

Jody Hagemann, Senior Director of Product Management at Comcast Business, commented on the partnership in a release: “As companies rooted in online entertainment fill the void left by canceled live sporting and gaming events, esports’ popularity is growing, and some leagues and games are poised for success both during and after stay-at-home mandates are lifted. By deploying Comcast’s high-bandwidth network and SD-WAN solutions now, NSG is well positioned to rise above the competition and become a leader in the future of esports.”

In June 2018, Comcast Spectacor – the parent company of NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers and Overwatch League’s Philadelphia Fusion, invested in Nerd Street Gamers. It later contributed towards the Philadelphia-based company’s Series A.

Rob Johnson, Chief Operating Officer at Nerd Street Gamers, added: “When you are building an esports platform at the scale we envision, anything less than a super-fast, highly reliable network is inadequate. Comcast Business gives us access to reliable connectivity during even the most intense competitions. We’re able to create a competitive environment that puts every player on the same footing.”
